About High Country Sporting Birds

High Country Sporting Birds is a Canadian bird shooting outfitter in beautiful Big Bar, BC

Among the rolling grasslands of BC’s Cariboo Region, an hour away from the town of Clinton and 5 hours outside of Vancouver, are the 14,000 acres of stunning landscape that comprise the OK Ranch and High Country Sporting Birds’ shooting terrain. High Country Sporting Birds is owned and operated by Charlie Squarey, the man who will help you plan the perfect shooting trip. Charlie grew up shooting and riding in this area and knows the landscape well in every season. He is also passionate about raising and training German short-haired pointers for hunting and shooting.

The OK Ranch is a working cattle ranch. It was established 1933 by Harry Marriott, Rancher and Author of “Cariboo Cowboy“. The OK Ranch is currently owned by Lawrence Joiner and his family.

Our main season is mid-September through to end of November. In additional to this shooting season, we are happy to provide customizable shoots and packages from December through March.

We also have areas available for off season dog training; facilities to hold sporting dog trials and tests; and additional grazing pastures, hayfields, and rangelands to shoot on when not in use by the cattle ranch.

We are involved in conservation and restoration of the local bird populations, and we are committed to being good stewards over the land while using it for shooting excursions. No grouse will be shot on the Ranch property as part of a project to increase the wild grouse population.
